Plinth Prints on sale for charity

11 Oct 2009

At the end of September I was lucky enough to win a place on Antony Gormley's One and Other project on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square (if you're not familiar, he gave members of the public to be "living statues" for one hour - non-stop for 100 days).

Not being the stripping or protesting type, I decided to use my hour to try and produce something creative. I decided to try and photograph, stitch and upload a 360 degree panorama during my hour on the plinth. Not an easy task, but one I just about managed (well, thanks to the shoddy 3G signal in central London, it actually took a few minutes after to complete the uploading process).

I was extremely lucky with my timing (7pm on a Friday night) which was just about the golden hour for photography, giving me an excellent opportunity to photograph both in the twilight and dark. It was also the hour of the week when Sky Arts did their live highlights programme. Apparently I was shown in the background, and my stitched photo shown the week after (although I don't have Sky so I haven't seen it to confirm or deny it!).

The most significant part is that from the images I took, I created some really striking panoramas of Trafalgar Square at dusk, taken from the perspective of hovering above the plinth. I've made prints of these available, in limited quantities, to buy from www.panoptics.co.uk/plinth - with all profits going to the Stroke Association.

So, if you like the look of the pictures, or know someone who would, please pass the link on!
